No conundrum there
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, April 19 2013 @ 03:45 PM EDT
OP. My needs are not specialized. What I am noticing is a narrowing of news
results to fewer and fewer sources, mostly from my own backyard. My suggestion
is that they de-tune the results, or rather, tune them so that regional sources
closer to the stories have more prominence.

I'm not sure there is any way to deliver this message to Google and I know the
discussion here is free and a good way to hear from others. The extension to
narrow news results is narrow other results which of course has been the focus
of litigious complaints designed to smear and trouble Google and a point of
discussion on this blog. This was not the focus of my point other than to state
the obvious that once a party starts to tune things up, they inevitably
introduce a bias.

News results tuned to my backyard are a loss of a valuable service. I can
already find local news sources like I can find my socks. Google news was a
breath of fresh air but it has become less so, at least by my perception.
