Fun with physics
Authored by: symbolset on Saturday, April 20 2013 @ 02:15 PM EDT

Some 3.7 billion years ago life began on Earth. Ever since it has been smacked off in chunks that travel to the nearest stars on a regular basis. 3.7 billion years is a long time. The Sun has made many trips around the Milky Way in that time and the "nearest star" has changed quite a bit. Some of those formerly nearest stars are now quite far away. Much farther than this star, which in this scale is just around the corner.

We will get there in time.
