It happened while I was asleep. It's all working fine for me now,
19.33 UTC Wednesday. I can't find any story yet that says what
was off where or for how long. Hint: all service.google.com

Gmail Suffers Limited Outage
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, April 17 2013 @ 03:57 PM EDT
Gmail, Google Docs hit with limited outage

Many Gmail users faced an unwelcome surprise Tuesday morning when they fired up their computers for the day: Google’s e-mail service and its cloud storage service, Google Drive, were down.
...
The company said that some users have already seen service return and that it will provide regular updates on the issue. According to the company’s posting, the outage is affecting “less than 0.007” percent of Google Mail users.

Perhaps an apposite comment came from a local news reporter discussing with a BBC correspondent events in Boston and Washington, and observing rash press comments there may be due to the febrile environment.
