Or at the very latest it is 18th century. Unfortunately, the student who needs
to learn a lot of "modern" stuff needs to learn the old stuff first.

As far as the textbooks are concerned, though, you are quite right. They remind
one too much of the "flavor enhanced" meat which is sold at too many
grocery stores. Meat which is injected with water so that it "tastes
better." But of course we do know why they add that water, don't we? It
weighs more and it is sold by weight.

Those who claim that textbooks are a racket are right on the money. That is
nothing new. But the ability nowadays to provide online or electronic
"supplements" is part of that added water, too, quite often.
