This Pony knows more than one trick.
A few executives for the local steel company formed a company to sell or
process steel production slag. The new company bought (you can't give slag away)
slag and stockpiled it on acreage the new company owned right next to the steel
mill. In front of the mountains of slag they created a berm of topsoil that
supported grass and shrubs to shield the ugly view of piles of gray slag. No
slag of any amount was ever sold. The steel company has changed hands several
times but keeps selling (maybe giving or paying) slag to the new company that is
entirely composed of acres of piled high slag which resembles a moon landscape.
Some day you and I will pay our money to address this dump because the Slag
company has and will never have any equity.
Lots of business models ride this Pony.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
