The obvious reason it'd be piling up would be because no one currently has a use for it. And so, it's considered waste.

Just like bottles were once a waste product.

Just like Plutonium-238 was once considered a waste product and is now used for deep space exploration.

I have no doubt that as Humanity's science knowledge grows, what we consider waste today will have purpose "tomorrow". And tomorrow we'll have new waste products.
