On my phone (Motorola Defy+ running Android 4.1.x), right after installing a new
release, having first done a factory reset followed by installing the OS and the
(separate) 'gapps' Google Apps), the phone (after asking about language, time
and other miscellaneous info) poses the following question:
"Make it Google?"
"Yes..."
"No..."
The 'Yes' and 'No' are not exactly worded like that but the buttons are the same
size, positioned above each other on the lower half of the screen. I always say
'No', and that is the end of it. I run a script to disable all Google services
on the device and use it in any way I please.
Later, when I feel the need to use the 'play store' (which I still think is a
silly name) I run a different script to enable the relevant Google services
(mostly Google Login and Vending) and start the app. It asks me to either create
a new Google account or to enter an existing one. Since the play store only
works when logged in to a Google account I do not see how this can be
interpreted as being 'bad' in any way. It then tries to get me to create a
Google+ account, which I decline. It asks me if I want to back up the device to
Google (no), if I want to sync it to Google (no), if I'm interested in special
offers from the play store (no) and starts the play store. These questions are
normally only asked once, on configuring the device. Since I insist on only
enabling Google services on demand I get to answer them every time I choose to
use the play store. This is mildly annoying, but no more than that. Once I'm
done with the play store I run the previously mentioned disable-script again to
get rid of those Google services. The device keeps working as it did before, the
installed apps work as they did.
If there is a problem here I do not see it...
