It really depends on how you want to define memory system. The RAM memory system
is built into the hardware of every PC I've ever owned. In fact I've never seen
a personal computer where this wasn't so. Anything in RAM or ROM is part of the
memory system. The BIOS only works by loading itself into the RAM memory system,
although that strictly isn't a necessary step, just how PCs work.
Any function that will be accomplished will have to hook into the RAM memory
system to function. I had tools back in the 1990s to schedule jobs to run in my
DOS system, and it automatically on power up ran a diskcheck. The RAM check was
automatic as part of the built-in system. So the XT already performed that
function on the memory system as far back as 1990, and I think the BIOS actually
has a 1985-1986 date on it. Which would put that function well out of patent,
and not novel in 2002 being then commercially available for at least 16 years.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
