Little tweaks won't save them
Authored by: OpenSourceFTW on Thursday, April 04 2013 @ 03:48 PM EDT
Yes, they appear to be improving modern.

No, they still don't understand that a large percentage of people will still
hate it.

Perfect time to brag about Linux.

Sidenote: part of why I switched to Linux was because I saw what Microsoft's
"future" looks like (metrofied, walled-gardenified), and I didn't like
it. Rather than wait for the inevitable, I switched now to give myself more time
to get used to a new environment.

Now, I'll be able to help others who are forced to choose between relearning a
whole new desktop interface or just learning a new OS.

Windows Blue is a completion release
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, April 04 2013 @ 06:50 PM EDT
It's not going to be a step backwards, like everyone was expecting, but another
step forwards... I appreciate that they've got the guts to go through with it,
but I wish they wouldn't have done it on something I have to use daily... I'll
be training users, expecting me to answer why they changed it, and I can't say
"to make more money off of you" either...

If they drop the desktop completely someday, I wonder if I'll have to keep an
old Windows machine running in order to use the GBs of old, but useful
applications I've got that aren't being maintained anymore.

Windows 8 isn't finished, yet
Authored by: Ian Al on Friday, April 05 2013 @ 03:45 AM EDT
Windows 8 isn't finished, yet.

Microsoft has to add Modern Interface features in Windows Blue to meet user
requirements.

Windows 8 isn't finished, yet.

Windows 8 market share is dramatically smaller than Windows Vista and even more
dramatically smaller than Windows XP. However, the Windows 8 market share is
slowly growing.

Windows 8 isn't finished, yet.

Windows 8 is unsuitable for desktop/laptop computer use and will never succeed
in this market. In the mobile device market, Windows 8 is not saleable against
the lower (hidden) price of Apple iOS and the minimal price/cost of Android. It
works far less well because of the system demands of the OS and the poor battery
and user performance. The supply and market for Windows 8 apps depends on
Windows 8 sales and has no long term future. Windows 8 isn't finished yet,
but...
