Well, the first thing that goes wrong, starting with 95 (or maybe even 3.1) and
still happening occasionally in Windoze 7 concerns ejecting a mounted CD, and
ends with Bill's one true invention, the BSOD. I note that recent Linux
distros (for at least several years) properly unmount the CD before ejecting it,
even if you do it by using the hardware eject button rather than the GUI. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I wish that all the user settings were kept in somewhere like ~/.etc, to mirror
the fact that all system settings are kept in /etc.
And then, if the file in /etc specified the place for storing user settings
relative to ~, you could tell different versions of the window manager to store
their settings in different places!
