Homeopathy or the placebo effect?

Or do they have the same answer for some reason?

There's no reliable evidence that it has any outcome beyond the placebo effect. Wikipedia has summary of the issues.

There's a million dollar prize for proving that claim!

It does, actually.
If you can prove that, James Randi has a one million dollar prize available for you. Homeopathy (actual homeopathy, not just the random stuff that gets labeled as "homeopathic" when it's actually herbal or something) cannot work. Because science.

Actual homeopathy involves diluting a harmful ingredient to the point where there is none left, and then claiming that somehow, the diluting agent (usually but not always water) some retains a "memory" of the harmful ingredient, and somehow, magically, decides to fight it or anything else that might have similar symptoms (like a disease). There is no such thing as water memory. If you can prove otherwise, please feel free to visit the James Randi Educational Foundation and apply for your million dollar reward.

Yes, I am dead serious. One million dollars is ready and waiting for anyone who can prove any form of magic, and homeopathy most definitely counts. The JREF has publicly stated that a proof of homeopathy would win the million dollars.

I am honestly saddened to see someone as otherwise sensible as PJ apparently taken in by this utter nonsense.
