I'm using an earlier version of Ubuntu, as well. I just tried to execute your
method of getting rid of this, and I found that my distro does not recognize
either the command apt-get or just apt, though the Ubuntu Software Center (USC)
shows apt installed, and there is a man page for it.
Also, when I tried to get USC to show me "unity-lens-shopping", so I
could remove it, once I got to "unity-", it indicated that it couldn't
find anything at all. Does that mean that it doesn't exist in my machine, or
would it be under another name? To verify whether it didn't ever exist in my
machine, do you know how far back the first distro that had this was? I don't
remember which distro I'm using, though I do know it was configured for smaller
machines (running on an Asus EeePC, 900 series (originally started out life with
XP :-( )). Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I run multiple distros, and I find that, when I allow the update manager to
update the kernel, it totally messes up my booting, and I have to re-edit
grub.cfg (using vi). As a result, I haven't updated the Ubuntu kernel lately,
if that affects this. (I wouldn't think so.) I'm currently using the 2.6.32-42
kernel.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
