No question:I agree with you!

but I must point out that Autodesk is neither the only nor first company to try
this sort of thing: Ever since (at least since, if not earlier) Microsoft has
attempted to tie their software to (1) a particular computer, and (2) the
original owner of that computer.

Mostly, people have ignored it and either (1) passed along Windows and whatever
else they've installed to someone else when they dispose of the system, and/or
(2) kept the older copies and installed them on a new computer.

Also, recall that MS just tried some kind of enforcement regarding Office for
Win8 that would prevent you from reusing the licensed software on a new computer
(I assume some kind of DRM-like nonsense) but got so much bad press that they've
announced they will change that policy.
