Do I actually have to take my servers off-line?
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 20 2013 @ 01:27 AM EDT
The point was that, just as I am not my own enemy, this guy isn't the enemy
either. All he did was expose a vulnerability.

While I do not advocate going around checking other people's doors to make sure
they're locked, I am not so naive to dismiss the value of people that care
enough to do so.

So far, my server farm has held up very well (about 5 years into it, now). But
I am only one person. I can only hope that if someone comes along and finds a
weakness, they would let me know rather than me find out later when it's too
late.

If AT+t actually views this guy as an enemy, then AT+t has lost it's bearings
and is out of touch with the reality of what the REAL threats are. They should
be thanking him instead of persecuting him (note the spelling... There is a big
difference between prosecution and persecution). AT+t's customers, employers,
and the whole ecosystem around AT+t should be thankful...

When people prefer the bliss of ignorance over reality, a very rude awakening is
inevitable. Perhaps it's just a personal preference, but I prefer to not to
sleep on watch. We owe it to ourselves to keep each other alert.

("Iron sharpens iron" and all that).
