Have you looked at the price of quality academic books recently?
Authored by: MadTom1999 on Wednesday, March 20 2013 @ 01:44 PM EDT
My father was an academic and wrote books for use in coursework. The publishing
company takes the vast bulk of the income from his work. They even conned him by
reducing his royalties for the e-book versions!
I tried to point out to him that they did practically no work for their cut - he
even formatted the books himself - but old habits die hard and I could get him
to release the work for free - even though the accountant took most of the
royalties for working out the tax he would have paid.
As in most things parasites get in between the producer and the consumer.

And I'm betting they're no less expensive.
