Blog pimping
Authored by: albert on Wednesday, March 20 2013 @ 11:15 AM EDT
I think he means this:

http://shar.es/eAgJV (your link)

as opposed to:

http://acuriousguy.blogspot.ca/2013/03/toronto-space-apps-challenge-technology.h
tml

One blog I use insists that all links use tinyurl.com to conserve space!

URL-shortening services are harmful to communication
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 20 2013 @ 09:12 PM EDT
Wayne, I'm the Original Complainer.

As the sibling reply points out, the link you posted did NOT "go to"
an information page: it went to an URL-shortening service. So you essentially
locked up the actual URL you intended to communicate inside a proprietary box.
This is a practice that has come up repeatedly here, and IIRC the general
consensus is to publish only unobscured URLs.

Regarding my "blog pimping" comment: I have occasionally found myself
wondering whether you were trying to use trivial posts here to promote your
personal blog, and in my annoyance over the obscured URL I included that
poorly-considered ad hominem in my rant. On reflection I suppose there's nothing
fundamentally wrong with including links to your blog, so I hereby apologize for
the snotty tone I exhibited, and retract my characterization of you.
