Dont like the "Featured" stories at the the top?
I used Stylebot to hide the stuff I don't want to see.

I just use a normal RSS reader that runs on my PC. It doesn't sync to "the
cloud", but then I don't need it to.
I use Lifrea on Ubuntu (12.04), and I'm very happy with it. It has very nice
integration with Unity, so it appears in the messaging menu and the
notifications, and the icon in the launcher adapts itself to tell me how many
new unread items there are. I recommend it.
