Some people only learn the hard way.
Recently did some prototype development. The sales guys wanted to have it on
iPad. I suggested Android instead. No, "iPads are for professionals,
Android is for hackers". M'kay ...
So we needed to get the App into Apples's shop. Ups. After they got the time
estimates we agreed on a web application instead. A bunch of ugly JavaScript,
with limited function, quirks and some annoying issues with the HTMP 5
application cache. Hey, they asked for it, they got it.
After repeated issues during customer demos, and after eight out of ten
customers asking for Android, they dared to claim they always wanted an Android
app, but engineering couldn't deliver. It was all our fault.
I printed their "iPads are for professionals, Android is for hackers"
on A3 paper and pinned it prominently to the aisle wall.
My boss made me take it down after a few days. But not without remarking that he
thinks they got the message, and that we just got an additional budget to do the
prototype on Android.
I have been told the sales guys are a bit more shy these days to brag about
their fetish iPads. Maybe they'll even order some Android tablets in time for
the new app. Maybe.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
