Some simple questions about SendGrid

Well, I unfortunately have the feeling she got the job as developer evangelist
because of her gender and good looks, not because of her - I am sure -
exceptional technical skills. It is an old trick in PR departments all over the
world, hire a female to deal with male customers. To stand out in a
male-dominated world and attract developers to listen to her not purely because
of her brains.

So she is fighting the very same thing she benefited from when getting the job.
Maybe she overcompensated and therefore went thermonuclear.

The result is very predictable. More and more men in male-dominated industries
will more and more try to avoid interactions with females in their jobs. And in
case they are decision makers they have an easy way to avoid interactions with
females by simply not hiring women. She really didn't help her cause.

2) what is a developer evangelist?

A public relations rep for dealing with third party developers. "Evangelist" is a "Microsoft" term. In the Free/Open Source world the usual term is "Community Relations". If you are familiar with Ubuntu, then the corresponding persons there would be Jono Bacon and his crew.

and what kind of company needs one?

Every company whose business plan involves third party developers.
