Google is not dependent on Samsung because it’s not dependent on
Android. Samsung is not
dependent on Google because Samsung is not dependent on
Android.
Android is dependent on Google because Google holds the
code. Of course anyone can create a fork, and
they have, but those aren't
called Android, and get lost in a sea of wannabees.
Android is dependent
on Samsung, to the extent that Android's current success is largely due to
Samsung's
technical and marketing skills.
For Google to truly
succeed in mobile it needs to define a better business model.
This
might be the killer. Google is reluctant ro get its hands dirty with hardware,
releasing a reference model
then sitting back to watch what happens. Do Google
have any idea of a business model for any of their
software outside search and
related ads? e.g.
At least Google has a sense of humor. Yesterday
they released Google Keep an obvious
competitor to Evernote. Who is going to
trust Google with a product like this now? Evernote talks openly
about their
business model and how they are planning to survive 100 years. The most
hilarious part is that
Google recently killed a very similar product - Google
Notebook. [

Android is a good, or good enough, OS to compete with iOS. WP and BB
struggle
Everybody that I have heard of who has tried a
Blackberry Z10 has said that it is better than an IPhone. I've seen them in the
stores here, and they are very nice. The IPhone looks a bit dated by comparison.
Of course, not being the best may not hurt Apple in the end. Microsoft
has shown with their Windows product that vendor lock-in can make up for a
lacklustre product.
