Tim Cook himself....

Tim Cook himself expressed some doubt about the viability of the litigation
strategy. He may have seen the numbers, too.

Honest question:

What does Chrome have, to recommend it over Firefox?

Off the deep end....

...on one hand, I dislike Apple's litigation. It hasn't
encouraged me to buy Apple products.
...on the other hand, it hasn't changed any of my purchasing
decisions. Longer-term, what has and will change my
purchasing decisions is:
(a) Apple's relatively closed OS.
(b) Price.
(c) My hatred of iTunes.
(d) Apple's weak cloud sevices.

...and I guess the truth about Microsoft's brand is that the
major brand damage involves the really annoying buggy
software they foisted off on consumers for years at a time.

Shorter-term, Apple's stock price dropped because, as an
increasingly undifferentiated luxury brand, their accessible
market is limited. Their litigation probably didn't make
much difference.
