I never could understand (still don't) why there needs to be "an App for that" when a plain vanilla browser can display plain vanilla html. Sure not many sites are still plain vanilla, but neither are browsers. Apps are just another layer of obfuscation, and website publishers who provide an App are contributing to the balkanization of the web. The problem is not limited to iOS, there's creep into the Android space as well.

I think I know what was "wrong" with Reader:
they couldn't find an easy way to monetise it.
