Groklaw's Proposed Response to the USPTO's Request for Suggested Topics for Future Discussion - Care to Help? ~pj

I . don't . accept . software . should . be . patentable .
period. I don't care if it is just for 1 year - or even 6
months. This isn't "invention" they are patenting. This
isn't even "innovation". This is the ordinary, every day
work product of software engineers. What purpose does
patenting such a thing serve? Nothing good!

Patents don't block innovation, they block copying

If "new software" is blocked by a patent, by definition the software
is not an innovation. Instead, it is anticipated by or described in the patent.
20 years from the filing date is about right.

In any event, since in the U.S. it takes about 3 years for a patent to issue, a
5 year life from the filing date is clearly far too short.

I'm not here to compromise on software patents.

I'm here to bury them at the bottom of a salt mine with a stake through their
heart.
