Sorry about taking so long to explain. I wanted to wait until the good
people at Popehat had a chance to look at things before I posted anymore. I was
actually worried that even pointing out that the ' is the problem would cause
them trouble.
The problem is not in the links.
The problem is
in the referrer field as others have surmised.
What happens is Groklaw
puts the title of the comment into the url, which turns into the referrer when
you click on the link.
Popehat couldn't handle the ' in the referrer
field. Often, that indicates a SQL injection vulnerability, but I've been
assured that is not the case in this instance.
To make things more
interesting, Groklaw puts more than one comment on a single page. The url for
that page includes the title of the comment you clicked on. Not necessarily the
title of the comment with the link. So depending on exactly how you got to a
particular link, it may or may not work for you.
For example using
this link
and scrolling up to the Let's try again comment should cause the link to work.
However, if you click on the link to go directly to the "Let's Try Again
comment," then the link will not work. (For some reason I can't get the URL for
the "Let's Try Again" comment to embed properly in this comment.)
The
reason some people had problem with the original link is that they clicked on
the "Here's Why American Airlines Chose Samsung Over Apple When It Bought 17,000
Tablets" and then scrolled down to the original link to Popehat.
I hope
this makes everything clear. It was just an interesting interaction between the
URL's that Groklaw uses and a minor glitch in Popehat.
