In theory students fitting desired psychological profiles could be identified
early and be given special consideration.
This could be used for good, in stimulating students with math or language
aptitude, or it could be used for bad in identifying kids with mean or nasty
streaks, interesting for closed government agencies or criminal organisations.
Somehow this is a bit North Korean'esque, with money taking the place of
ideology in asserting control.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

but close enough.
A coach driver told me the story of him learning maths. Along with a bunch of
friends, they flunked it pretty badly, and were told "you can retake CSE in
the Upper Fifth" (Upper Fifth being a re-run of year 11). They all turned
round and said "but we need O-level for what we want to do in the
future".
The head wasn't impressed, but said okay, they could take O-level, and gave them
a teacher - a music teacher! The music teacher said "I know as little as
you, but I can see you want to learn, let's learn together".
BECAUSE the music teacher believed in them, this bunch of failures embarrassed
the top set in the exams!
Cheers,
