Despite the Chromebook Pixel, Google Knows Exactly what Chromebooks Are for - the Latest Video
Authored by: Gringo_ on Sunday, March 10 2013 @ 11:49 AM EDT

I was really impressed with the video featured on the News Picks showing multitasking with Chrome OS and Linux on the Chromebook Pixel. This is a machine I want! I am willing to pay the price for the Chromebook Pixel. It looks so useful. I wonder if Google or Samsung might sell a Chromebook pre-configured to multitask with Linux and ready to go?

In spite of the fact that I have been developing on Windows since 3.1, I have vowed that I will never step down to Windows 8. I'm sure I can make some cool stuff with Linux, only I would like to know what developers use for C++.

Can someone tell me if there is a nice integrated IDE/debugger for C++ on Linux? I was imagining perhaps there may be a version of Eclipse for that one could combined with QT for a very productive environment. Who knows there may be a market for apps spring up if Chromebook w/Linux gains in popularity?

Asus and others, quickboot, OS
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 13 2013 @ 11:07 AM EDT
I have a couple of Asus computers, that had a separate power
button, for a quick boot OS that was Linux, but with someone
elses name on it for whatever company was producing the
laptop. (from memory, Splashtop I think is Asus's)
They no longer have it on their systems. The ONLY real issue
I had with it, was it was NOT upgradeable (security issues,
later edition, etc). The first system they did have one
update, that required a flash update (SOC type of setup), but
heard enough horror stories with it, I skipped it).
Is Chrome OS, fixed, or does it get patches, etc?
