winDOS updates does it every time IE gets an update. Last time they even moved
the search engine for Chrome and Firefox to Bing on the company PC I have the
pleasure to use that joke of an OS if I forget to push the flash card with
Xubuntu installed in the slot.

How would it be unobvious how to set your default browser? Firefox has an
option in it to check whether it's the default every time it starts, which
automates the process of resetting the default if anything else messes with it.
Beyond that, my first instinct was to check the obvious place: Control Panel. Oh
look, Default Programs. First link: "Set your default programs". There's Firefox
at the top, with easy options for setting it as the default for everything it
can be the default for. And of course at the bottom of Default Programs is the
traditional "Set program access and computer defaults" link, which brings up the
old XP-style way of setting things.
It's annoying that Chrome tries to
force it's way into being the default, although I've never had it do that on me.
But it's not very difficult to get things back, certainly easier on Windows 7
than it was on Windows XP. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I had a Chrome update yesterday also but there was a checkbox (admittedly ticked
by default) saying 'make this my default browser'. So either you had a different
dialog, or you missed it.
Either way, folks would be best advised to look carefully.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
