Backup legally purchased DVDs?
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 06 2013 @ 03:07 PM EST
Why would you need to do that? Unless you are getting your dog
to put the discs in the machine... An original factory DVD will
likely last far longer in proper storage than any consumer copy.
I think they meant format shift, which is what I already do with
every DVD I get so I can watch on my iPod, laptop, whatever.

Why The Unlocking Phones Debate Is Important
This debate in Geekdom is all very well with us blogistanis nodding sagely. What concerns me is how to make J Random Device-Purchaser aware that the lockin occurs before purchase. Or whether he even cares that the political and philosophical decisions resulting in lockin are made before the device goes onto the drawing board. It's a new industry with a wild west winner take all attitude. I think there's a car analogy somewhere in there too. How long did it take before cars could run on any brand tires or gasoline? And how many users today still take their car into the dealer they bought it from for servicing with his choice of lubes and parts?
