Unfortunately native wayland apps don't work across the net.

so now you have to have two versions of something simple - like a terminal
emulator. One that does X for remote access, and yet another one that only works
locally.

Personally, I would have expected an X12 version by now. A refactoring of the
network protocol.

The server should have a better plugin architecture, allowing plugins for
encryption, authentication, and identification.

It should have toolkit plugins (cross compatible) to allow a consistent
presentation, yet allowing a plugin to be whatever the user chooses.

What has happened with wayland is the requirement for TWO versions of each
toolkit - one for the X11 protocol (complex), and one for native use (slightly
simpler). Yes, they CAN make shared libraries that have both... but now the
toolkits are double sized... which is even more inefficient.

The problem is that about half to two thirds of the code in a toolkit should be
in the X server - with a suitable protocol to match.
