Install standard vga driver, use clonezilla to create image and either boot
virtualbox from clonezilla CD image and re-install image or even use networked
clonezilla to move directly from XP machine to virtualbox.

Works the opposite way to create a USB bootable Windows too! using usboot
utility in virtualbox to install the usb boot drivers

Switch your harddrive controllers in Windows to "Standard PCI/IDE
Controller" rather than a vendor specific driver.

Same with the video drivers and network drivers.

Remove vendor-supplied device drivers from Add/Remove Programs as well.

Your VM should then boot, and auto-detect the virtual devices.
