I'm not saying that it should be Google branded. I would NOT want it 'branded'
at all if it was for me (except perhaps by the hardware vendor). This is about
the HARDWARE guys producing a high specification laptop preloaded with Linux!
Other alternative would be to brand as (say) Mint or Ubuntu!

All Chromebooks are easy to root. Usually it's as easy is holding down a key
combination or flipping a switch. It's a requirement from Google.
The best place for information is usually Google blogs.
Chrome is really a customized Gentoo and is completely open. It's nearly
trivial to install Gentoo on a Chromebook. Ubuntu or any other distribution is
only slightly harder.
