Direction view is a failed attempt to make it an overlay hud on the windscreen.

Dunno what you mean by pan view (no manual with the satnav,
"intuitive" doesn't work with non-visual people).

But I find the detail view very good for immediate use. And the voice
instructions can be distracting and confusing - like telling you to "turn
left" before you've got to the exit BEFORE the one you want ...

If by pan view you may the next one up that I've got into by accident, that's
useless for what I want (still far too local a scale), and also confusing in
that the orientation of the satnav bears no resemblance to the orientation of
the car.
