IBM has many divisions. It was only one division that was
involved with M$, I believe. Fortunatly, or unfortunately
if you prefer, IBM made their PC design available to the
public.

Microsoft stabbed IBM in the back.
Microsoft and IBM worked together on
their respective Windows and OS/2. They were compatible and could run the same
applications. Microsoft embraced the compatibility.
Microsoft
then extended their system in a way that new apps could only run on the
new Windows and not on OS/2.
In the end, this extinguished OS/2,
which was a real OS and not just a GUI shell on top of DOS.
IBM
probably expected that their superior system would gain the market over time.
But as many companies have learned, whether or not they partner with Microsoft,
superior technology is no match for dirty tricks.
