well I did expand my number to a dozen ;)

OpenSUSE is one of those top 12, and I do have a soft spot in my heart for Puppy
Linux. In fact, if you had looked at distrowatch, you could have pointed out
that I mentioned number 12 by name (Slackware), where OpenSUSE is well ahead at
number 5.

As if I didn't have enough egg on my face, though, even a dozen is not a high
enough number. Most of the top 30 Linux/BSD distributions are still awesome,
which again has me wondering about the handwringing over the number of
distributions.

If our resources were spread so thinly that we could only have mediocre, at
best, then consolidation might well be critical. However, if we have this many
great choices, then the FOSS community is certainly doing things well! Of the
top 30 distributions, if my boss came in to tell me that I had to move from XP
to any one of these, I would be happydancing for the rest of the month.
