"Fair" would entail her being hounded, persecuted, threatened,
prosecuted, *and* critisized.

Unfair? Really?
Authored by: hardmath on Friday, February 22 2013 @ 11:29 PM EST

The claim one must suppose is that 13 felony convictions and jail time are commensurate and perhaps necessary responses to downloading a million academic articles (from a source that did not press charges), weighing the potential that such articles might be distributed against the reality that they were not.

Hey, I remember a guy who ran a "healthcare" company in the 90s while it defrauded Medicare and other health programs, gave kickbacks to cooperative doctors and home care agencies, etc. The company wound up settling a guilty plea to 14 felonies and paying $2B in fines, while said former Chairman and CEO got a $10M in cash, $360M in stock, and a $1M consulting contract to tide him over.

Fortunately he landed on his feet, learned his lesson, and is now governor of Florida.

U.S. attorney: Criticism of Aaron Swartz prosecution is 'unfair'
Authored by: albert on Saturday, February 23 2013 @ 11:39 AM EST
Great quotes from Ortiz! She stepped in it, and now _she's_ the victim? She is
the victim of her own hubris. What's amazing is that she, and others, actually
believe they did nothing wrong. Even criminals know how an admission of guilt,
and an apology, go a long way towards reducing a sentence, or some form of mercy
from the court. Apparently, USDAs are so untouchable, that they can do whatever
they want. Perhaps they're afraid of a really big lawsuit. I hope there is one,
and they lose big time. In any case, here political aspirations are destroyed,
and she has only herself to blame.
