I would have identified MySQL - but
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, March 01 2013 @ 05:11 PM EST

But it's my humble opinion that it'll be destroyed - in a sense - due to Oracle taking it over.

That's why I listed MariaDB - I believe that's the primary fork that occurred to MySQL when Oracle took it over and started mishandling it.

Of course it goes without saying that since MariaDB is a fork of MySQL..... the only thing that'll really be "destroyed" will be the name.

Why I listed PostgreSQL and MariaDB (MySQL) is because: for some time those were the two primary databases in use by the FLOSS culture.

I didn't think it worth trying to segregate specific market segments like hosting providers while speculating about a highly potentially amusing future that will probably never occur in reality. That's way to much real work when one is busy creating a fantasy.

First Normal Form considered harmful ...

You know my feelings on that :-)

But there's no reason why NoSQL databases can't support (an extended) SQL
because SQL is just a query language. And any database that isn't in some normal
form is going to be very hard to query easily.

PostgreSQL is actually a NoSQL db. Cache is a NoSQL db that almost certainly
supports SQL. The Pick databases I love are NoSQL databases that support SQL.
etc etc.

Cheers,
Wol
