Please - consider the costs to the Jury

The only companies that have granted me paid time off for
time spent serving on a US jury are Japanese companies.

All US companies that I have worked for expected me to either
use vacation time or sick leave.

This is at least in part related to the fact that companies
that don't provide their employees paid time off don't have
as many employees out for long trials.

Down under, it's enshrined in law that an employer must make up the difference
between the dollars per day the courts pay a juror and what they normally earn.

In the UK companies are not required to pay you while you are on jury service
(although they are normally required to give you the time off to do it) but the
court will reimburse you for the loss of wages you suffer. You also get a small
food allowance.
I cannot tell you if there are limitations on the reimbursement because I've
only done jury service while working for a company that paid me while I did it.

At least two companies I worked for had a formal, official policy of terminating any employee on jury duty, when that duty went over the two week mark.

Only one company I worked at would pay employees, and then only if they were "senior management", for jury duty.
