Google Chrome has done it for a while
Authored by: cfox on Friday, February 22 2013 @ 05:44 AM EST
At least in the case of Chromium, PDF rendering is performed on Google's
servers. This has privacy implications. And the trick does not work with PDFs on
the local filesystem or on secure websites, nor when you don't have access to
the internet. There are plugins for Firefox that use the same trick.

In contrast, the platform-neutral PDF.js HTML5 rendering now used by Firefox is
performed locally, and does not require the document to be loaded on to
third-party servers. This has been available as a Firefox plugin for some time.
It is possible to compile it as a Chromium/Chrome plugin.
