40,000 patents per year, > $25B per year. OK,
I've been beating this drum for a while, but I won't stop.
*****
MONEY IS DRIVING THE USPTO ******
To the tune of $726,874,000 in
2012, up from $602,260,000 in 2011. A perusal of their fee schedule
supports the following maxim: "Patents make money, and bad patents make big
money" (because of the much higher fees for reviews).
This is the
only conclusion that make sense. Examiners can't be that stupid. The "grant
more patents" command must have come from above. I leave as an exercise for the
reader to determine who's driving this philosophy, but I'm inclined to include
IP lawyers, Big Companies with lots of patents, and of course, trolls. Right
now we have a $29B drain on the economy, for which we get nothing, but
remember, there are (hopefully) income taxes on that $29B (for the lawyers),
and some tax on settlements received (again, hopefully). I'm not an accountant
so I stand to be corrected. $726M isn't chump change. The gov't doesn't
care where the money comes from, only that it comes.
I expect no
progress until this is dealt with.

"...and even
supercomputers..." Windows 8?
I can't imagine an alternate reality where
Win 8 will be used in supercomputers, unless one considers 10,000 Surfaces a
super computer.
Thanks, Steve, you made my day. Just wish you actually
_said_ that.
All the best,

Was bound to happen.
I wonder how many "non-practicing entities" they'll go after with
this? Would
get them some good PR in tech circles, and they could probably use that[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
