Perhaps you would consider not putting words in my mouth.
I don't recall saying anything about whether GM foods are good or bad.
I certainly did not suggest they are needed to solve World Hunger.
I asked the question: if there are cases where GM products are of benefit, how
do we insure there is incentive to create them? It SEEMS to me that the intent
of patents is to foster innovation. (And how does that have ANYTHING to do with
personal choice?).
IF some GM products are beneficial, how then is their development
fostered/rewarded/protected, if not through patents?
If you feel GM products are not and never will be of benefit to society, that's
an opinion you are entitled to.
My question is directed at that portion of the audience that may feel there ARE
cases where GM technologies may provide benefit (maybe a small group?). Given
the cost of research and development, how and who pays for it?
It's a simple question with no simple answer... I was HOPING to spawn some
thoughtful intercourse, but so far it seems I've mostly spawned "greed
bad" and "GM evil" comments; so I guess this is one of those
topics where we have problems getting past emotion.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
