So I keep seeing people say. But can you
demonstrate that with evidence that doesn't
come from the gene modifying industry or
its supporters? [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Selective breeding is NOT the same as artificial gene modification. Neither is
'evolution', which operates within the bounds of Nature. So does selective
breeding. Nature _allows_ selective breeding, even inbreeding, to the point of
the production of sick or non-viable offspring.
Nature could NEVER create Monsantos soybean GM. Why? Because the gene they used
was discovered in the sludge ponds of their Roundup facility. It was created by
bacteria in response to Roundup pollution. No Roundup, no gene.
"Save the world from hunger" arguments are disingenuous at best,
self-serving at worst. They confuse quantity (more money) with quality (less
money). Folks need quality foods with good nutrition.
There's plenty of food for the world's present population. Most starve for
political reasons, and/or corporate greed.
Exponential population growth is the real problem. Zero population growth will
need to be addressed. Nature deals with overpopulation by starvation and death,
there's no other way. We could do better than Nature. We should. We haven't.
