When I think about Python, I think about Monty...
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, February 15 2013 @ 10:26 AM EST
'The' standard-work w.r.t. Python (Programming Python, by
Mark Lutz) is literally soaked with tongue-in-cheek
references to Monty Python, all-ther-way from page one to
~800.

On page 65 of my edition (ISBN 1-56592-197-6), the section
"What's in a name" explicitly refers to the descent of the
Python name from the Monty Python origin.

When I think about Python, I think about Monty...

From The Python Tutorial:

By the way, the language is named after the BBC show “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and has nothing to do with reptiles. Making references to Monty Python skits in documentation is not only allowed, it is encouraged!

Chapter 3 has some SPAM. 4.7.2 introduces the parrot and cheese shop functions. 5.1.2 has three more pythons. 5.6 has the holy grail. Finally in 7.1, the knights who say 'Ni' have spam and eggs. I know the Bicycle Repair Man shows up, but I cannot remember where.

.

This situation begs for a reasonably absurd solution,
particularly if it ever gets to court and straight faces are
needed. Let us hope the groundswell grows for one of the
alternative solutions such as:

The parties can compare legal fees. The party that has
expended the most can choose from Python or one of the
leading, tastier names such as Piethong or Pithong.
