I think Microsoft is locked in a big companies give us big cheques sales model, and then is trying to compete in the consumer space.

Whatever is going on, something is seriously off the rails inside Microsoft. It isn't going to be fixed easily with Julie Larson Green leading up Windows at Microsoft. She is the person that gave us both the Office Ribbon and the Windows 8 UI.

Microsoft also has the challenge that if more than 50% of its users bolt for alternative platforms, then Microsoft's historic lock-in advantage in the PC space becomes meaningless.
