Office 2013 tied to single machine ..

Well, I have both OpenOffice and LibreOffice installed on my computers. I don't
have Microsoft Office installed anywhere.

Microsoft continues to be their own worst enemy.

Knock yourself out, Microsoft.

Office 2013 aimed at corporate market

This move will alienate another slice of personal users, but there will
always be those who don't know, don't care, or accept that computers
are always like that. The larger business market OTOH with site
licenses won't have this problem and will insist on in/out in
.docx format. Anybody who disagrees is a whingeing freetard.

Not a surprise

MS has been slowly moving in that direction for years.

Consider this gem in the Win 7 Home Premium EULA:

    2. Installation And Use Rights
    d. Number of Users. Unless otherwise provided in these license terms, only one user may use the software at a time.
From my reading, the license is devoid of any exceptions. As a result, depending on how far the Legal minds really want to take the above clause:
It's possible you're not allowed to sit with your child at the computer playing flash cards because 2 people would be using the software at the same time.
Of course, IANAL so I could easily be missing something in the license that allows you to supervise your child - or allows you to play on half the keyboard against a buddy who's using the other half the keyboard on a game.

In the desktop days, M$ Office used to allow a user to install a copy in their
home computer, the idea being to allow the user to continue his work at home.
This was a business- and user- friendly policy. Other than greed, is there any
other reason to abandon that policy? Lots of folks use laptops, and shuttle
them between home and office. Sort of defeats the purpose of the new policy.

That's likely to raise some serious hackles.

The US government needs to take a look at the effect of such commercial
attitudes on it's appearance in foreign parts. It does a lot of damage.
