I'm wondering about Disney...

Hah. Disney has licensed a lot of stuff -- they were accused of stiffing the
agents who sold them the rights to Winnie the Pooh but then bought those same
rights out from under them. They certainly paid royalties for Bambi, Peter Pan,
101 Dalmations, the Sword and the Stone and The Black Cauldron. They apparently
bought something to make John Carter, though the Asylum was able to make a cheap
and awful film of the Princess of Mars in 2009 starring Antonio Sabato Jr. and
Traci Lords because it is in the Public Domain. If the Public Domain
disappears, Disney won't. It will be the little guys who go away.
