Lawyers don't (or very rarely) get sanctioned in the UK.

Just award attorney fees as a matter of course! Then the CLIENTS will hold the
lawyers in check - they don't want to pay the opposition's bill for shooting
down their own lawyer's flaky argument.

Even in the UK, and even if I was 100% certain I was right, I would be very
cautious about having my lawyer argue much beyond what was accepted law. By all
means, let him throw in some backup arguments, but not the whole gamut from
solid to ridiculous.

A Judge would have no qualms, even if I won, about awarding costs to the other
side to defend against any ridiculous arguments by my own lawyers.
