Two issues
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, February 12 2013 @ 02:53 PM EST
1. Locked to one carrier. Unlocking illegal some places.
That's a problem for you US folks, not for me.
2. Jailbreaking to install other apps. Illegal where?
Note that jailbreaking is necessary to install security updates
when your carrier doesn't supply them OTA, which was what
the original article was about.

i could argue that you don't own the phone. it was subsidized
because of the two year contract and you wouldn't technically
own it until the contract is up. i'm sure there is something
in the contract to that nature.
And i can reasonably accept that.
The only problem i have is not forwarding security updates.

Regardless, i will be leaving verizon this summer and buying
only unlocked phones for this reason.

IANAL
