The general PC may also be a lead ballon

Yes, i hope this new MS 'rent-a-crap' product turns out to be a lead balloon and
doesn't create perception within the marketplace that there is a need for such
products.

I can only hope for a huge MS advertizing budget followed by just as huge a
product failure. Likely though, MS will just continue to throw money at the
problem until the market gives up and falls into line.

Like you, i use libreOffice and i have been able to open everything i have come
across so i have no need to use MS software of any variant on my machines.

Mind you i did get a MS office 2010 bundled with my latest HP workstation but
have yet to wipe the disk and instal Linux and LibreOffice. I do like Win7 UI
but i hate the Office2010 ribbon interface and don't get me started on Win8 UI
or the secure boot initiative.

Sooner rather than later this latest HP workstation will be wiped clean of MS
and made free but i fear that this may not be as easily in the future.

Future computing points to a locked down walled garden type of device thanks to
secure boot initiative. We will have a computer that is strictly controlled by
someone other than the owner. We will own nothing and rent everything, just pay
monthly for all our computing and entertainment pleasures (indexed @ 5% above
inflation).
