Or iPad
Authored by: TiddlyPom on Sunday, January 27 2013 @ 10:55 AM EST
Or on the iPad to be honest. These are restrictive
practices - i.e. "I know you bought the hardware but you
cannot do anything other than what we TELL you to do!"

If I want to run something other than iOS on an iPad then
why the heck should I not be able to do so! It is my own
hardware for goodness sake!

If I want to run another version of software on my Android
Phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 - which I do CyanogenMod) or on my
Android Tablet (I run VegaBean on my Advent Vega) then that
is MY business and my RIGHT to tinker. That I why I would
NEVER buy either an Apple iPad or a Microsoft Surface (RT).

Support Software Freedom - use GPL licenced software like Linux and LibreOffice
instead of proprietary software like Microsoft Windows/Office or Apple OS/X

Surface

Slightly different ...

I recently installed a N2A card in my wife's Color Nook.

History:
A few weeks ago, the Nook had apparently been corrupted by
a power surge while charging. It had been completly returned to its original
pre-sale condition. She had to
start out from the beginning. All of the books came back,
but all of the other "apps" were lost and upon trying to
reinstall them the B&N site claimed that they were no longer
available for the device. I emailed the B&N service people
but have never gotten a reply. I recalled a long past post
on GL mentioning the N2A card so went to check it out again
decided to get one.

Now:
WOW! Not only does it read ebooks, but it can now do many
other things and is much more useful. A very good use of
$40. She still buys ebooks from B&N but we will never
buy a reader from them again. And, no, we will never get
rid of OUR paper books. At least they are reliable.
