Not buying Microsoft
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, January 27 2013 @ 10:51 AM EST
You can hate Microsoft as much as you like (and I do) but if you have a program
that will only run on Microsoft you are screwed. I have such a program. It is
called Street Smart.

Have a nice net-book 2 Gb memory and a convent size to carry. Problem is Street
Smart requires 5 Gb to run. If it does not have 5 Gb bad things happen.

Hating Microsoft I went to the old Apple store for a new computer since an
acquittance has one with it running on.

Before this I had tried to run Windows programs on a number of varieties of
Linix only to eventually come to the conclusion that my computer skills are too
limited for that.

At the Apple store I found out for a mere $2000 I could get all the hardware and
software needed for me to run Windows on a Mac laptop. Unfortunately thogh that
did not include the Windows operating system which I would have to install in a
virtual mode. Add another $300 and I would be back to where I was with Linux.
Thanks but no thinks.

Went down to best buy only place where you can walk in and get such equipment in
this town. No Windows 7 boxes only Windows 8. Do not know if Street Smart will
run on Widows 8 but from the looks of Windows 8 I strongly suspect NO at this
time. No, not interesting experimenting. Good By.

Went to local professional computer service company that only works on corporate
systems.

Acquired Lenovo quad pro with 12Gb memory for $900. This system will run Street
Smart and at half the capital cost of Apple and none of the mental anguish cost
of Apple or Linux.

Like it? HELL NO! But what can one do.
